drum-line & front ensemble clinics & auditions
Dear Incoming SAHS Band Percussion Students and Parents:
Here is information regarding our upcoming Drum Line and Front Ensemble Clinics and Auditions.
Clinics are necessary for students to attend to meet our new Percussion Instructor- Mr. Adam Collester (UNF Student) and to also learn the material for the auditions. This will give Mr. Collester and myself a chance to see what your strengths and weaknesses are and how coachable you are. We are looking to return to having a Marching Battery (Drum Line) on the field this year as well as a Front Ensemble (Pit Section) that does not march. We are looking for the best combination of these 2 sections to make-up the entire percussion section. EVERY student has a "blank slate" for auditions. Just because you played a certain instrument last year/ this year does not mean you are guaranteed a certain spot. ALL spots will be earned AND everyone will have a spot in either section.
This is the link to our Percussion Audition DropBox Folder.

This is where you will find the audition material for all instruments. You will need to pick 1 Battery Percussion instrument (snare drum, tenors, bass drum, cymbals) AND 1 Front Ensemble instrument (any mallet instruments, rack/ accessory percussion, drum set, piano/ synth/ electronics, concert bass drum/ timpani) that you will need to audition on. In the folder is also the warm-up packets, and information for each instrument, as well as a new cadence that will be learned called Storch. Please come to each clinic with the warm-up packet for the 2 instruments you plan to audition on as well as the music for Storch for the Battery Instrument you plan to audition on.
During the clinics, expect that you may be asked to play or learn a different part than you plan to audition so that everyone can participate as much as possible AND it may be that we fill you are better suited for something different.
Please remember to keep an open mind about what we ask you to play. Please wear comfortable clothing to march in - including tennis shoes. Bring your own drum sticks and the music requested. Bring water (and possibly a snack).
Drum Line/ Front Ensemble Clinics:
Thursday, May 2nd- 4:00pm-8:00pm
Thursday, May 9th- 4:00pm-8:00pm
Auditions:
Thursday, May 16th- 4:00pm-8:00pm
Saturday, May 18th (if needed)- 3:00pm-6:00pm
If you are a New Student and you have a conflict with any of the above dates, please let me know (such as a band concert or band rehearsal). This will not prevent you from auditioning and you will still have a fair shot like everyone else.
Remember that we need ALL Percussionists (those planning to return, those that are not planning to return, and incoming new students) to complete both of these Information Forms for us:
